The Trump rout on Election Day was complete. The politician billed as the greatest threat to American democracy and labeled the second Adolph Hitler expanded his support and did better in every demographic in just about every state across the country. In the end his opponents, flummoxed, incredulous and totally humiliated at the turn of events, still have not fathomed the depth of their utter and categorical repudiation. Worse yet, they are not capable of the kind of introspection needed to understand why their electoral drubbing was so definitive.
Kamala Harris’s defeat was Joe Biden’s defeat. There was never any possibility that Harris could divorce herself from the disastrous policies of the Biden presidency and simultaneously convince people she was an avatar of change. The powers-to-be always insisted the American people were suffering from the effects of bad communications on the part of the administration, rather than bad policy. In the end, the naked truth was revealed in its full fury. Election 2024 was not about the lack of America’s conviction to continue supplying the huge amounts of taxpayer cash needed to fund the endless war in Ukraine, neither was it about abortion, nor transgender rights. No, it was about the uncertainties of working families concerning the high cost of putting food on the table, paying for gas to go to work, and heating homes. It was about the sadly deteriorating state of our cities, and the emboldened lawlessness of criminals. It was about the fact that anywhere from 15-18 million illegals have come into the country in the last four years, and the painful spectacle of America’s flaccid leadership on the world stage, if you can call it leadership. No, it was never a communications problem, but a problem created and executed by the Biden administration of which Kamala Harris was the most proximate participant. In the end, the rationale offered to Americans is that what they were seeing at the Southern border was really not happening, that inflation was temporary, and that people weren’t as badly off as they thought even though the cost of everything was through the roof. It was all just a dream, a delusion, with clarity just around the corner with the joy and hope of electing Kamala Harris. That was a promise as flat as a warm beer on a July day.
The rounds of blame and finger pointing have commenced in earnest, and even the voters themselves are being blamed for the audacity to vote for a convicted criminal who dared to offer a vision of hope and strength. The losers are seeking to find answers to the debacle in every place but where they should look. They are seeking to blame the very people they attempted to trick with their shell game into not going along with the scam. They are striving to place the onus on everything and everybody but themselves and missing by a mile the stark reality of just being totally out of touch with the folks. What is good about whining recriminations is that none, but the whiners are really interested. With fewer crybabies to listen to, the whiners might smarten up and start listening to themselves for a change and learn something about self-awareness.
