For all of the investigations, subpoenas, and testimony the American public has been hearing about for the last 2 years, not a single referral or criminal indictment has been forthcoming. Republicans James Comer and Jim Jordan are forever hot on the trail of Biden family misdeeds or corrupt administration officials failing to carry out their lawful duties, however, when it comes to actually producing a prosecution for wrongdoing, they seem like a pair of home decorators trying to hang wallpaper with spit. The time, money, and effort invested in these Congressional circus routines are just not justified given the abysmally poor results.

While the American public has the right to expect Congress exercise serious oversight over the multitude of persons, agencies and organizations responsible for governance, what we get is a continuous clown show of probes which go nowhere and witnesses who use Congressional hearing room microphones to rationalize and perpetuate excuses for failure and mediocrity. As a nation, we deserve better. Citizens exercise the ultimate control through the power of the vote, and when the elected representatives we put into office are unwilling or incapable of follow-through, we ought to extend citizen’s oversight power and vote them out of office. Don’t waste our dime or time!

Our political life has grown tone deaf to real accountability and responsibility with respect to those who exercise power. As part of the system of checks and balances our Founding Fathers so wisely crafted, there should be a rigorous commitment to making the investigative powers of Congress mean more than merely showtime and sound bites for a few bloviating politicians. If investigations warrant referrals for criminal indictments, they should be made without concern for “politics, ” otherwise, why bother going through the motions. Unless the James Comers and Jim Jordans of the Legislative branch are prepared to truly go the distance with respect to routing out and acting on criminal wrongdoing, waste, mismanagement, and fraudulent enterprise by those in government, they would do well to just blow away along with the wind in their empty gas bags.
