Well, it has finally happened. A sitting American president has directed the implementation of a solution to the problem of illegal immigration that is not only insultingly flawed, but one that holds native born Americans in total contempt.
For months Joe Biden has asserted that illegal immigration, a problem his administration has largely facilitated, could not be addressed through the promulgation of an executive order. With an election fast approaching, and his poll numbers on the issue in the gutter, President Biden has miraculously discovered his executive authority and conjured a plan to show voters, especially independents, that he is really serious about tackling the issue of illegal border crossings. The only thing is the Biden order does nothing of the sort to address or end the problem, it merely seeks to depressurize the issue with the usual political gimmickry associated with a president desperate to be reelected to another 4 years in the White House.
Essentially, the guts of the Biden order consist of a trigger which turns asylum seekers away from entry into the United Staters when the seven-day average of daily border crossings exceeds 2,500. According to senior White House staff, these steps will better enable immigration officers to remove persons who have no legitimate legal claim to being in the United States. Those who are expelled will be barred from reentry for 5 years, as well as facing possible criminal prosecution. There are humanitarian exceptions to the order, including for unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking. The order will be discontinued when the seven-day average falls below 1,500 encounters.
Given the dire conditions U.S. Border patrol has been operating under since the commencement of the Biden Presidency open borders policy, does anyone seriously believe there is any real intention of enforcing this nonsensical order? The whole affair beggars the obvious question as to why there is a “threshold” for allowing any illegal crossings into the country? The number should be “0.” We all know that the vast majority of illegals pouring across the border are not genuine asylum seekers, rather, economic migrants in search of a better way of life. Many migrants have stated this fact themselves when willing to be interviewed, and there is a long-standing legal process for dealing with these types of migration situations. With immigrant advocate groups and NGO representatives literally coaching arriving migrants on what to say in order to not be returned, countless numbers of persons are being given future court dates to appear at an asylum hearing and then released into the nation’s interior. Who and how will the 2,500-threshold number be computed and verified? Who will determine the exemptions for human trafficking and other humanitarian related issues? The Border patrol is at a breaking point as is, and so now we are to believe that they are going to become accurate bean counters as well. Biden is responding to the five-alarm fire he started with a garden hose, and trying to fool the American people into believing the flames are under control. This time, however, Old Joe has gone too far. Even if only a seven-day average of 1,500 illegal encounters are tolerated, over the course of 12 months that’s an additional 547,500 thousand persons illegally entering the U.S., or roughly the equivalent of another Tucson, Arizona.
American politics is oftentimes as cynical and shameful a game as any, but this order is in a class by itself. Joe Biden knows as well as anyone that he can stop the flow of illegal immigration completely and definitively with the stroke of his pen. He doesn’t want to do it. He doesn’t want to because it would spark an insurrection within the ranks of the far Left of what was once the Democratic party, the wing that Biden’s political life support depends upon. Biden has chosen to sacrifice the safety and sovereignty of the American people for the sake of holding onto to his radical base and donor class, the real enemies of the American middle class, American freedom, liberty, and yes, democracy. Joe Biden and many in his own political caste are betting the bank that unchecked illegals will someday in the not-too-distant future be the grateful and loyal acolytes of a one-party country, where Democrats will permanently monopolize power. It is ironic that Joe Biden speaks of America’s irredeemable race problem, and yet presides over a country where an estimated eight to twelve million persons have entered the United States illegally since his inauguration, in addition to the one million or so admitted legally. The notion of American dominance by hard right white supremacists hardly jives with the desire of millions of persons of every conceivable race, creed and color clamoring to come to America’s shores, facilitated by a chief executive uninterested in enforcing the law. The Biden executive order is designed to garner votes, and hopefully dodge the bullet on an issue his administration has willfully and unlawfully aided and abetted.
America is at a crucial crossroads. If we are to remain a nation of laws, we must start by ensuring that those who are our elected representatives are carrying out and discharging all of their legal functions, including the enforcement of laws. Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that the president “shall take Care that the laws be faithfully executed.” The Biden record of willfully violating the laws concerning immigration is both a travesty and demonstration of utter contempt for the American people. Implementing Biden’s executive order is but one more example of how little our principal elected leader is interested and unconcerned about this crisis.
